Susan, what a great story you’ve shared! We often have no idea the power and the impact a simple acknowledgment can have on someone who may be uncertain of their value to an organization or in this case in one of your classes! And let’s not forget the difference the giving of an acknowledgment makes for the giver! You seemed surprised and delighted by the impact your acknowledgment had. That really contributed to you and gave you motivation for staying on this path. Thanks to both for carrying this message forward!

Susan, it’s great to see this 30 day Gratitude Challenge that you have created! I’m certainly most grateful to you for having created it, and for sticking with this whole initiative! Your becoming a Grateful Leadership Certified Professional, Level I, is a gift to all who will hear you speak as passionately as you do on this topic. I hope we get many participants to join in the challenge. So count me in!!

Jim, this is such an awesome invitation!  Here’s an acknowledgment that I delivered recently that Is a bit unusual for me!

I know you’ve referred to me in your Podcasts as the “Acknowledgment Evangelist,“ but this acknowledgment that I delivered recently is both a little bit unusual for and mysterious to me.

I went to a UPS store and heard the owner exchanging annoyed comments with a woman there, an employee. And then I asked him about shipping a package to Canada and I didn’t understand exactly what he was telling me. He got “snarky “ with me (i.e. impatient), and so I said to him, “I don’t appreciate being spoken to in that way. I don’t think you were showing good customer service.“ He looked at me, his eyes widened, and he said “I’m sorry, I was busy yelling at my wife when you walked in. I should not have taken it out on you.“ I was so honored by his honesty and change in manner, that I really acknowledged him for being able to turn it around completely.  I also told him that he shouldn’t be yelling at his wife but rather, find something nice to say to her because she was helping him.

He insisted on giving me a gift of a  lovely diary which he said was to make up for his behavior. It was really adorable! While I don’t think it was the average kind of acknowledgment that one delivers,  I do think that sometimes delivering the truth to someone and and then following  up  with appreciation based on the person’s gracious acceptance of it, is food for acknowledgment!

    Best, Judy

Jim, thank you so much for taking note of this auspicious occasion! You have played such a significant role in “maximizing” our message! We all appreciate and value your ongoing contribution as well as those of other of our “regular” contributors. We always want to encourage our members to participate in any meaningful (to them) way! What’s meaningful to them about the Grateful Leadership initiative is meaningful to all of us! Keep up your incredible work, Jim. And congratulations on your first successful Grateful Leadership session that you led at GM last week! And on to the next one, at Menlo Innovations next week. From “student” to teacher… I love the journey you have chosen to be on.

    With profound gratitude, Judy

It’s wonderful when children learn the Power of Acknowledgment at such an early age! And look at the difference your granddaughter has made: to her mom, to her grand dad and to all of us at the CGL! I’m so happy to hear this story! 🙂  Thanks for sharing it!

Hi Rich! It’s a pleasure to “see” you in the Center for Grateful Leadership! I’m thrilled that you are doing a Keynote presentation at our upcoming “Leadership and Innovation” Online global conference and that you have also joined our community of practice.  Your presentation will be a real inspiration, and I know your message aligns so well with ours of Grateful Leadership. In fact, I’m hoping you can be one of our special guest presenters on a monthly webinar. I think our members would really love your message. Please feel free to contribute to our community! And let me know which month you want to present at! 🙂  Hope I’m not putting you on the spot, but I just can’t resist the great combination of Joy and Gratitude. The world truly needs both!

    Dear Jim,

Your heartfelt appreciation of Tom’s inspiring post is just further evidence that you both are making a huge contribution to the Grateful Leadership initiative! You do this by modeling it on a day-to-day basis. I’m so proud to have you both as regular contributors and participants! Keep up the amazing work you are doing.

Jim, you’re getting close to your 100th podcast in the “The Art of Grateful Leadership” podcast series. Your dedication and persistence are truly amazing! And Tom, your  frequent “visits” to the Communication Board are always welcome and appreciated.  My deepest gratitude to you both.

Tom, your acknowledgment of Jim’s podcast is so generous and heartfelt, that it deeply touches me. What Jim shared with the world in this podcast took great courage on his part, and I know he inspired many, if not all of his listeners. Your presentation on our January webinar in which you shared that incredible acknowledgment of your father, is an inspiration to all as well. Any members of our CGL community should make sure to hear that as well as Jim’s podcast. You can access Tom’s presentation by going to https://gratefulleader.wpengine.com/cgl-monthly-webinar-archives/

We are all deeply honored and moved by the inspirational contributions of CGL members like you and Jim! Thanks from the bottom of my heart for bringing this initiative to all you encounter.

With my personal sympathies to you both for the loss of two great fathers. It’s eminently clear to me that they raised two great sons!

Terri, I’m so happy that you acted so quickly on my suggestion to join the CGL and to introduce yourself on the CB. Tom Kiley, thank you so much for welcoming Terri so warmly. I know that you will have as much to contribute to the Grateful Leadership initiative as Tom has, Terri. So thanks for taking the time to contribute already!

You must meet another member who does leadership training with horses! Francisco, please say “hi” to Terri. We have such a great group of people in the CGL. I hope you will be joining us for our live webinar on Friday 11/16 at 1:00 pm. I will be sure to get you an invitation to that event. I’m so completely honored that you “allowed” my presentation to move you to action and completion. I’m sure you mother will receive the love that you will be sending her in that letter. Hugs to you and to every member of the CGL for their investment of time, resources and energy toward making this world a more positive place!

Tom, what you wrote makes me feel like this work we are doing really matters. In fact, each time someone shares a breakthrough, as you did —  a transformation of the order that you describe, I know that my personal mission, purpose and passion do make a difference. You are an outstanding model of the impact commitment to this leadership model makes.

And you have achieved the ultimate “acknowledgment” from me that you can’t even see or hear, and that is this: giving me a severe case of “goose bumps” as I read what you wrote. That’s the ultimate proof of the truth and importance of any acknowledgment of this work that I receive! 🙂

I can’t begin to describe how profoundly you moved me. You and others passionate about this work give me the energy and the commitment to pursue this leadership model, no matter how unattainable my true goal is. And that is to reach everyone in the world with this message in a way that makes a huge, positive and powerful difference. In spite of all of the negativity we hear in the news and all around us, we are truly creating a world that works — all of the members of the CGL are making this possibility a reality. You are contributing to that in major ways, Tom. Keep them going! With gratitude and appreciation, Judy
